Lots of Silver-Jasper Necklace

This gray jasper has bold silver patterned beads. The pattern is intricate and the shape is complex. In the studio we call these “fishy beads” but there is nothing fishy about them…just pretty! The statement of this necklace is fancy! The segment of beads enhancing the “fish” is comprised of freshwater cultured white pearls and green jasper round beads. It is strung to 17 ½” on a durable, flexible wire with a sterling, soldered spring ring clasp.

Bar Harbor Collection

Bottle Brown Cluster

Since opening my showroom in Bar Harbor, I’ve learned that sea glass jewelry is in high demand. I love the stuff, but have intentionally stayed away from it because I used to apprentice with a woman who made it her trademark. At the time, not so many designers were making jewelry with it. We live on the same island. Therefore, I kept my distance from the material for 15 years. Last fall, I went on a field trip visiting galleries on my own Island and throughout Downeast Maine. I quickly realized that there is a lot of sea glass jewelry made in all kinds of styles by many different artists now. The woman I worked with is fully established (wildly successful) and so I feel free to offer you at long last, my Bar Harbor collection.

Did you know it takes the ocean roughly 40 years to make a well-rounded piece of sea glass? Did you know that with all of the recycling we now do, the sea glass is not being replenished? So it’s ironic when you consider that this beautiful, natural bi-product of littering (lets be realistic after-all) could actually be mined out! It is getting harder and harder to find nice sea glass. All of my glass is from Maine or Prince Edward Island in Canada. Our family’s very own Katy Perry (David’s Grammie), writer extraordinaire, found these pieces.

This sweet Bottle Brown piece is set in sterling and has jasper and freshwater, cultured, color enhanced pearls accents in autumn colors. It is permanently on a petite sterling beaded chain which is 15 ¼” long and I’ve added a length of sterling figure eight chain so it can be adjustable for 3 more inches.

This Sterling Sea Glass necklace has a Victorian influence with a modern twist. The white sea glass is accented by a geometric watermelon tourmaline facetted drop and freshwater pearl accent. The stringing on this one was a fun challenge. You have to “place” the pearls when you first put it on, but in my tests-it stays. It is 17 ¼” long.

This asymmetrical one-of-a-kind has uses white sea glass in a sinuous sterling setting with all the good stuff! It has silver jack beads, fine white zircons, a black spinel briolette and 6 BLACK DIAMOND facetted beads. I had fun putting this together. The entire piece was spontaneous and it shows. I felt like a rebel mixing diamonds and sea glass-trash and treasure, you know?! It is 18” long.

So I can’t deny how much this looks like an ice cream cone. Yummy!

It is a light brown piece of sea glass strung with spessertite garnets and solid sterling silver beads. There is a garnet accent at the bottom of the variegated, domed sterling “cone.” There is more weight to this piece than my usual work due to the large amount silver in this piece. The pendant measures 2” x 5/8” long. The “chain” is 18” with a soldered spring ring clasp.

Dream Catcher

As you can see, this jasper necklace has two faces. One is a deep green with a hint of red in the center; the other is a lighter, speckled green. It is painstakingly strung with tsavorite (genuine green garnet) chip cut stones, sterling silver stick beads and many teeny tiny sterling balls in the back. There is a watermelon tourmaline facetted teardrop briolette on either side of the jasper, which is what makes it remind me of a “dream catcher.” This necklace has a toggle clasp. It is strung to 19” on a durable wire.

Boulder Opal Wave Necklace

This is an amazing piece. It is all natural boulder opals. Boulder opals are opal silica in the ironstone boulder that it grows in. Opals are amorphic and always grow inside a host. In the case of boulder opals, the host (or matrix) is ironstone. The length of this necklace is 18.75 inches.

Garden of Flowers

This jasper necklace has a matte jasper focal bead that looks like a pebble you might find on the beach. It is strung with freshwater, cultured; color enhanced pearls and sterling silver daises. The pearls remind me of a field of flowers. I guess I’m ready for spring. The pearls are a different shape that is flat on one side, but domed on the other. Since they spin around I am showing them in the photo how they really lie. This is not a necklace for someone who enjoys uniformity. The owner of this piece is a free spirited “hippy” gal. I’d love it on a young girl. It is strung to 15 1/8” on a durable wire with a soldered sterling spring ring clasp.

This piece of sea glass reminds me of a branch of coral. You know how in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, all of the undead pirates had barnacles and looked like they merged with the sea, well this funny piece of glass reminds me of how the sea has a way of reclaiming everything. If you’ve ever accidentally dropped something in the ocean, you know what I mean. (My family alone has donated two cell phones and a set of keys.)

This piece has a solid sterling cap and a cluster of pearl and peridot dangles. This cool pendant (2 1/8” x 5/8”) should be worn long, so it is on a 23” sterling figure eight chain. The nice thing about the link is that you could clasp it anywhere you’d like.

DNA

This is my newest pendant design series…and this one has tourmaline sticks, sterling silver daisies and vermeil (gold over sterling silver) twirlies. It is strung on a flexible, durable wire to 19”. The pendant measures 1 1/16" x 5/8"

White Monet Perfume Bottle Necklace

I met artist Karen Bye in Tucson last year. The little dot in the upper right hand edge of this pendant is her signature. She is doing what I always wished I knew how to do. She is making small, wearable perfume bottle pendants. They are just gorgeous. The tops really open and you can actually use them with essential oils or just wear them because they are so pretty. This is her “Monet” with a white background and a green and pink billowy flower pattern. I have strung it with smooth, apatite roundels and pink color-enhanced, freshwater, cultured pearls in an alternating pattern all the way around the neck. It has a vermeil (gold over sterling) daisy and sterling silver daisy accents in the front. This necklace is strung to 19” on a durable wire with a soldered sterling spring ring clasp. The perfume bottle measures 1.25” x 1”.
